Active and sportive

Of course, Made is the native town of our national skating hero Gianni Romme, but you can also be active yourself. The rural area of our district is sprinkled with cycling and walking routes.

Cycling routes:
The ANWB cycling route ´Polderroute`, which goes through the outer areas of Zwaluwe and Made, takes you a/o through Oud-Drimmelen, the banks of the river Amer, Hooge Zwaluwe and Made. The `Langstraat-fietsroute´ also includes the greenhouse area and the Plukmadese Polder.

The cycling routes ´Markpontroute´ and the ´Haagse Beemdenroute´ offer an extra attraction. For EUR 0.50 per person (with bike) the Terheijdens Mark ferry takes you across the Mark river from 30th March until 27th October daily. There you can resume your cycling route, which you started in Terheijden, through the nature reserve of De Haagse Beemden.

A 30-kilometer route has been set out in the ´Culture and History route´. This route takes you past monuments, works of art and other sights around Terheijden and Wagenberg.

Fairly new is the signposted route-brochure 'Amerlandenfietsroute' of just over 50 kilometres, which takes you along the most beautiful spots in all the church villages of the district.

Walking routes:
Walkers can walk a middle-range distance to their heart's content in Zwaluwe with the walking route ´Zwaluwevlucht´. This 19-kilometer route takes you past the ancient 'heerlijckheden' of the Nassau family. From Drimmelen departs a similar walking route, which also takes you through Geertruidenberg.

Skeeler route:
Recently our district has laid out a skeeler route, which starts from camping Beverburcht in Drimmelen. All cycling and walking routes havebeen planned around the sights of the 6 church villages in the district of Drimmelen.

There are no less than three restored windmills, the fortification De Kleine Schans in Terheijden, the restored Eendenkooi along the ancient path of Schimmert between Made and Terheijden, the Linie van den Hout and the Munnikenhof, the protected village view Drimmelen, natural park Liniehof in Made, the restored and very pretty harbour in Hooge Zwaluwe and the peat pits in Lage Zwaluwe. It's also worth visiting the natural parks de Worp, the inside polder of Terheijden and the Zonzeelsche polder between Hooge and Lage Zwaluwe.

Made is almost directly connected with de Biesbosch, and the dunes of Loon and Drunen are very nearby. From the village centre, various boat tours depart, but you can also go on survivals, droppings and go canoeing.

Drimmelen has the largest pleasure marina on the inland waterways of western Europe, and countless options for recreation in and around the water. There is a school for sailing that gives sailing lessons to beginners and experienced sailors, a small company that rents out boats and various water sports stores. From Drimmelen, you can take a boat tour through national Park De Biesbosch and there are berths for passing yachts, yacht mediation and sale, yacht service, boat houses and there are sailing contests on the Amer river every summer and winter.
